FAQ being put together by MDP... get your questions in.

18 DAYS... and counting...

In an earlier post, I mentioned that a list of questions was going to be assembled and submitted to the MDP in preparation for the May 1st lifting of the 'communication embargo' (my term, not LEGO's)... well, a FAQ list has surfaced on the MDP forum and I am once again offering to post any questions you may have to that list...

I cannot promise that all questions will be answered... there may be some questions that do not have an answer just yet. For those of you who have posted questions via the comment tool, I have submitted those questions already. But feel free to post some new ones.

I'll let you know when and where the FAQ will be available as soon as that has been determined.

Please submit your questions via comments to this post. No emailed questions, please.

This has probably been asked/said by others too, but it would be great if somebody could hack up an alternative to LabView by July 1st. I understand the reasoning behind using that software, and it's great for kids or quite generally people who can't program to be able to program a robot this way - but just not for me. I'd love to be able to program the NXT in C or assembly or Forth or whatever "real" language from day one. Is anybody working on this?

My senior thesis was done in LabView, so I'm very interested in what NXT has to offer. In LabView, I was able to call dynamic link libraries written in C++ from the graphical code. So if the NXT development software is truly LabView at heart, then it's certainly capable. LEGO knows the success of the open source Mindstorms movement, so I hope they kept that in mind and did not strip that functionality.

I would really like to the ability to code with Ruby and also have the ability for the bot to be able to query resources on the internet during runtime through 802.11

Not really a question but a wish list.

Any information on creating homebrew sensors for NXT would be great.

Is it possible to link multiple NXT Intelligent Bricks to communicate, increase power, etc?

Is the Bluetooth capability only for downloading programs to the NXT brick? Or can you also truly use it for remote control? As cool as autonomous robots are, the remote in the VEX kits is very appealing.

1. What ARM7 processor (manufacturer, product id) is within the NXT?
2. Does the NXT have a "Bluetooth on a chip" chip (like the National Semiconductor LMX9820A)? If so, which one?

3. Can you program the NXT using C/C++ without going through some sort of LabView DLL out of the box? Will there be a C/C++ development path or API?
