"4 input ports, 6-wire cable digital platform (One port includes a IEC 61158 Type 4/EN 50 170 compliant expansion port for future use)"What's so special about this one "expansion port" when compared with the HiTechnic Multiplexor ?
Not quite sure exactly, but it is "official". For things like the FLL competition, the participants can ONLY use official LEGO parts, so the HiTechnic Multiplexor would be off-limits.And possibly LEGO is has a special product of its own in the works that will use that special port.Jim
Information on IEC 61158 Type 4 / EN 50170 is sparse (unless you pay for a copy of the specs) and, when available, very dense. From what I can tell, it allows you to hook into other sensors from INDUSTRY across a common bus system.IEC 61558 and EN 50170 were competing standards for industrial automation. Recent compromises allow devices to comply with both standards (as the NXT apprently does).Lot of power in that NXT.
