NXT motors as clock hands...

Dick Swan has posted a couple of videos showing NXT motors used as minute hands for a clock. One video is using NXT-G and the other is using RobotC. Check them out here and here.

I may be wrong, but I think the "overshoot and correction" shown for the NXT-G version can be fixed with some creative programming... anyone up for that challenge?

Thanks for posting, Brian. I think we need to be careful in our criticism of NXT-G - I don't think Dick Swan was trying to imply that NXT-G can't do certain things, but his two examples might give viewers the impression that the motors are not as sophisticated under NXT-G than they are RobotC. Your video proves that NXT-G can handle the same level of micro-movements that RobotC is performing in the other video.

True, although Dick and I have been corresponding on this on the nxtasy forums. RobotC has some incredible things to recommend it, and Dick should justifiably be proud of his PID control routines. But I also wanted to point out that NXT-G as good control as well (in fact, in many cases the control of the motor position is exceeded by the mechanical slop in the motor).

The biggest problem with NXT-G? The fact that we are *all* (myself included) new to it. I don't think any of us have had the time to really see what it can or can't do. I *am* glad at the large number of options that are already availible - it's amazing.
