NXT Sumo fighting on a Robotic LEGO DivX Channel


Hi out there,

Jerome, a guy from DivX, has called my attention to No Screwdriver Needed, a Robotic LEGO Channel that contains high-resolution DivX videos on LEGO Sumo battles. He told me that they have an Annual LEGO Sumo Championship in their company (for three years now) and have been recording and broadcasting the event this time.

There's a great video on many NXT bots (and a terrific RCX one) fighting against each other.

Do not miss that!

That is SO AWESOME! I've seen video's of sumo matches before, but the hilarious narration made it ten times better than all of those. This video is definitely worth watching again and again...and YAY! An RCX robot made it to finals!

Just be careful. I had to download the divx web program when I clicked on the movie. It made my web browser start acting funny. After I uninstalled it the browser worked like normal.

My browser froze as well; however, after a forced quit and a restart of the browser it's working fine.

My browser also froze once, the second time I was watching the video. But like Rick, after it shut down and I restarted it, there were no problems.

I installed the divx driver on my Mac using Safari, and it worked perfectly, no freezes. Great video! I sent the link to all my Lego team kids and some of the other coaches I know. Now the kids will all be asking how they can enter the sumo contest!

I've been working on getting a sumo competition together for my FLL team, and I think that this would be a great "get the feel for the comp" video. It's funny (shows the fun), displays a variety of robots(fast/slow/RCX/NXT), and it shows a good display of "this is not battle bots" fighting styles (wedges, laying black flaps down, gearing down, using line detection, opponent detection)

I'll defiantly be sending this video out to help them when they have rule's questions.
