Bird Watching Robot

Ken Goldberg, a researcher at the University of California at Berkeley has been working with colleagues to develop a robot that can search for the elusive ivory-billed woodpecker. The ivory-billed woodpecker was once thought to be extinct, but was spotted by a bird watcher in 2004. The project poses some interesting software engineering challenges that you can read about here.

Larry,

The link in this post isn't formatted correctly; hence, readers can't access it.

If you need any help in managing the back links, send an email to Jim Kelly and ask that the email be forwarded to me. I can then walk you through the backlink tags. Anyone else on the blog will be able to help you with this as well.

Hi Rick,

Sorry, both were caused by the odd way the HTML editor tries to be smart and changes your selection as you are dragging. Both of my pasted links were goofed up.

I'll be more careful in the future.

This is the last place I would see a post on the Ivory billed woodpecker.
Ive seen one here 2 years ago this month. I should somehow make the NXT lookout for it if it ever comes around again.
Hi msim,

That sounds like a great project! Maybe you should put a Mindstorms camera with your NXT so you can capture a picture next time.

I've been thinking about doing a datalogging experiment by putting my NXT with Ultrasonic sensor next to our birdhouse or birdbath to log the frequency of activity there. This is motivating me to get that ready for when things thaw out around here!
