Mindstorms NXT 2.0

Well, we all knew it was coming. The announcement has been made about Mindstorms NXT 2.0 and the details are sketchy, but here's what we know:

1: 1 Gigabyte of on board memory
2: 6 motors instead of 3
3: The Ultrasonic sensor will be replaced by a "GPS-like" sensor (???)
4. Inclusion of 3 Touch sensors
5. NXT-G being phased out in favor of the tentatively titled NXT-V
6. Reduction of number of Technic pieces from 482 to 225
7. Complete color change of brick - new color to be announced later
8. Built-in mp3 player on the brick
9. No more rubber tires - complete conversion to tank treads
10. Bluetooth being phased out in favor of wireless 802.11g communication

Expected cost: $450 US
Expeted release date: April 1, 2008

WOW, need more details. 6 motor ports!! this thing sounds like a BIG brick. They targeting the AFOL @ 450$( When you think by xmas? a gig of memory WOW NXTV must be like vista :)

But in this case... NXT 2.0 would actually work instead of flop over and die like Vista did.

Very impressive from the sounds of it.

Since I remember the Bacon Sensor, I'm not fooled. But I would love for it to come true....except for the price:-P

Im out of buying this neat little upgrade. Even If I started saving up now, I could barely have half the money to buy it. Im sure the answer is no, but will anything on the 2.0 version be compatible with the 1.0?

I heard that they invented an NXT brick that runs on water, man.

And instead of using color sensors to sort bricks, this one will actually make bricks. Except it won't make another NXT brick. It can only make pieces that are small enough to fit out the door that's just below the display screen.

The hardware specs may be way off base. Take at look at the Qwerk controller at http://www.charmedlabs.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29.
Qwerk is the next generation of platforms from Charmed Labs. Their first generation platform, the XBC had full support for all the LEGO legacy motors and sensors. There's a nice video of a holonomic LEGO robot at http://www.charmedlabs.com/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=6&Itemid=44.

Is it just coincidence that "Charmed Labs" is located five miles from NI headquarters in Austin?
