Oooh... I wonder if I can convince my wife to buy me a second one. For the kids of course... :)

Just want to make sure, retail version may turn out same as the one you get from LEGO education (part #979792 - 432 pcs) for ages 8+. It comes with rechargable battert, education NXT software (#928979) and NXT resource set (#979648 - 672 pcs). Importantly it provides FLL team license. I am not sure the new cost, but we paid $280 including shipping.
Microcenter also sells same product listed in this blog. I guess for home use this is good price, considering one year of shelf life or special promo.

In first line of previous comment I meant retail versionmay not turn out ......
I remember reading e-mails from lat year, purchasing from LEFO education is bargain considering all construction system we get. Only drawback is instructions..

The retail set has 571 pieces and includes the NXT-G software.
The $280 that you referred to is a great deal but its only available to someone who is registering an FLL team.
For others the Lego Edu set goes for $250 and the resource another $60. You also have the buy the software separately.
I'd personally recommend the retail kit for home use esp at $189 - (you can always buy the rechargeable battery separately.
