HiTechnic Gyro Sensor now available

The HiTechnic Gyro Sensor is now available. You can read more about it here.

The price is US$48.99 and can be ordered directly from the HiTechnic website. Because of HiTechnic's relationship with LEGO, it is also anticipated that you'll be able to order the sensor from LEGO shortly.

HiTechnic has also made available several downloads, including some sample programs PLUS the NXT-G programming block. You can get all that here.

Since this and other sensors will be available from Lego, does that mean they will be legal for use in FLL tournaments?

anonymious, NO, it will NOT be allowed to use them in FLL, cause they are NOT official LEGO sensors. Maybe in the future once? Like they add different ranks, one for regular FLL rules and one for the regular FLL rules + the HiTechnic sensors. :P I doubt so though.

The short answer is - FLL will allow what FLL decides to allow. They've had a very strict LEGO-only policy, and they probably have good reasons for that, and I don't think it will change a lot. But with "LEGO certified" sensors, I could see them allowing those (specificly, including them in the FLL kit) at some future point. But ultimately, it's simply what they choose to allow - period. And only they know that.
