Any idea how they are going to handle those who bought their sets on eBay (like me)?
No idea... sorry. I imagine there will have to be some sort of proof provided, most likely from a purchase receipt.

Catpit, let us know if your ebay purchase is recognized by LEGO and you get your upgrade for free.

just tried to upgrade my lego edu software

steps
1) uninstalled prior version
2) installed 1.1 version

result
Installer issue popup:
"we are unable to test bluetoothbackup"

installation process is frozen.

I never had bt on this machine. I hope this it not now a requirement

nevermind. turns out all I need to to was kill the dialog warning. LEGO could have put an proceed/cancel button on the thing.

I personally feel that they should not be charging people for a .1 upgrade of the software. Maybe if it was version 2.0.
NXT has only been around a little over a year now. I bought my 1st set for my birthday in September last year right after they went on sale.
I don't know why they bothered stipulating May 2007 when they could just as easily offered it free to all the die hard fans who rushed out and bought it right away.
It seems like the people who were the most eager to get the NXT are now the ones who are being punished and have to pay for not waiting.

If 1.1 was required for you to use your robot kit I'd say you have a valid complaint. But 1.0 will work just fine and no one is forcing you to buy 1.1. 20$ is not a bad price for an upgrade a year after you purchased the kit but there are always going to be those that want it for free. Lego can't win on this no matter what they do. There will be the same people a year from now complaining when 2.0 comes out and Lego charges for it.

1.1 doesn't work just fine on intel macs. The software is just plain bad, and bluetooth is inoperable. Lego represented that an update would be forthcoming to make the software a Universal Binary and to add bluetooth support. Well, it has been a year, and finally the update is here... for more money.

I was looking for the new 1.1 software that Lego had been promissing. I have a Macbook Pro and the bluetooth does not work with with the original software. Lego did not mention that they would charge for simple bug fixes.

I bought a NXT in July 2007 to use with my Mac Book Pro. After spending hours trying to get Bluetooth to work and googling for answers I found this thread.

Lego should be embarrassed at their behaviour. Not what I expect from a company I have lover since I was a boy.
