FLL Mission Overview Part 5 - Tree Planting

Objective: "Plant" the trees by moving to any area North of the main river.

Point Worth: 10 points per tree planted

Mission Location: Any area North of the Main River.

Speculated Difficulty Level: 1/10

Time Length Rating: Low

Unique Challenge Aspects:
First of all, the tree must be upright when scored, so you can't be to slack with it.

Also remember that to score for the Power Plant Supply, one tree must be planted in the Power Plant's property. Also, for every tree planted in the property, there must be a tree elsewhere. However, the tree planted in the property does not count as a "normal" tree.

Finally, you are allowed to attatch pieces to trees.

We're thinking this is a mission that most teams will attempt.

Richard

Jonathan's Comments: As I mentioned in the previous mission post (about the Power Plant supply), it probably is more worthwhile to simply move the trees north of (above) the main river for this mission's points then to move some to the Plant and others above the main river for the same amount of points.

One of the interesting Q&A answers stated that you could connect the trees to pieces, but you could not connect the trees together, even using extra pieces.

This is an interesting one. Thanks for covering the missions.
Question:
Do the trees need to remain upright if moved to the power plant?

David,

I would say yes, because to score as a normal tree, it must remain upright... but for an official answer I would ask Q and A.

If you find out, please tell us.

"Power Plant Supply:

Mission: Move fuel TO the Power Plant’s property.
Trees: 10 points each (Maximum of two, because... For each Tree to score as fuel, another Tree must score as “Planted”)"

The operational definitions (TO) are defined in Rule 12.

Since the mission differentiates between"planting" a tree and merely "moving TO" the power plant, it implies that trees moved to the plant need not be upright. Can you just sit them on top of the electrical lines and push them that way, since they are not attached to each other (as long as they end up over the power plant property line)? Or even attach the electrical lines "to" the trees?

"I would ask Q and A"
It looks like someone from the group already did.
This just in:
QA59 Fuel Trees Upright
10-4-07

Q: Do the trees delivered to the power plant have to be upright?

A: No. Rule 23.

Noddin,

Rule 14 -
"Scoring Objects Scoring objects are objects that could be worth points depending on their location. To score, each scoring object must itself meet the mission requirements for points, no matter where the robot or any strategic objects is. You are not allowed to bundle, connect, or attach scoring objects to each other, but placing them in a strategic container is allowed. "

The last sentence of this rule should answer your question.

Always a pleasure to help fellow nerds ;)
