That is indeed the official video commissioned by FIRST. I'm pretty sure that the guys who made this one (and last year's) took over for Skye Sweeny, after working with him on one video.
Brian Jennings here. I am the director of those Lego films.
I helped Skye out three years ago with his last FLL film. I did some special effects for him. That last year he had a medical complication that made it very difficult for him to complete the film. So the next year (Nano Quest) he asked me to take the film on with his assistance. So for the past two years I have been making the film with a good friend of mine.
So yeah, that's what happened...
