NXT Electric Guitar

I updated this Electric Guitar project from nxtprograms.com to extend the building instructions to show how to build the body of the guitar as pictured. This was previously left as an exercise to the reader, but I got lots of requests for the instructions... Also, I added this video:

Dave,

This is ingenious indeed!
The usage of the ultrasonic sensor here is remarkable.

Building complex robots mainly is a matter of perserverance, but figuring out these wonderful minimalistic solutions of yours is some sort of brilliancy.

Awesome robot! This far beyond any robot I have every created, and your use of the Ultrasonic is remarkable. I think you was have played the rapid note change in Iron Man wrong, though.

Awesome. I built it and I made it so it has an actual solid body. Nice!

Awesome!
Where do you get the power chords from? I know the Mindstorms website has a guitar sound. I assume you made the sounds yourself and then used Wav2RSO?

P.S.
The use of the US sensor is brilliant!

Thanks Guys. I made the power chord sounds by sampling chords from my son's synthesizer (simple Casio keyboard) then using Wav2Rso to convert to NXT format. The sampling was just recording with the cheap PC mic shown in the video using the keyboard set to "Distortion Guitar" and playing a power chord (root note plus 5th) then trimming up with PC Sound Recorder app. Pretty primitive, so if I had some decent audio equipment or software the sounds could be better, but then again the NXT speaker isn't capable of much...

It would be interesting to see if someone created a pedal function for this guitar, creating a whammy effect, or starting a drum beat.

A few ideas...

That was such a great video, showing such a creative use of the NXT, that I put the video up on Face Book so that all of my friends could enjoy the video too. Thank you for sharing. ...Allan
